A large blaze erupted at the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok early Monday, killing at least 27 people and injuring several others as patrons fled the smoke‑filled venue, authorities reported.

The fire was first reported around midnight, according to rescuers cited by the Associated Press.

Video from first responders captured flames pouring from the front of the building and thick black smoke billowing into the sky as people scrambled to escape.

Firefighters subdued the blaze in approximately 30 minutes, the Associated Press reported.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed at the scene that 27 people were killed and that several injured victims were taken to a hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A musician performing at the pub told Charnvirakul that he observed smoke emerging from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the power went out. Moments later, an explosion was heard, and thick smoke spread throughout the venue, the Associated Press reported.

Many of the victims were located in restrooms at the back of the pub, according to the prime minister.
