Bangladesh Come from Behind to Secure T20I Series Victory Over Zimbabwe

In a resilient comeback, Bangladesh secured their first T20I series win of 2026, overcoming a 1-0 deficit to defeat Zimbabwe 2-1 in Bulawayo. The victory dampened the celebrations for Sikandar Raza, who marked a historic milestone by becoming Zimbabwe’s most-capped international player with 314 appearances across all formats.

Operating without the injured Nahid Rana, Bangladesh utilized a disciplined five-man bowling attack to restrict Zimbabwe to a modest total. Taskin Ahmed led the charge with an economical spell, well-supported by seamers Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain. Zimbabwe struggled to build momentum, finding little support outside of a vital 71-run second-wicket partnership between Brian Bennett and Dion Myers. Myers contributed a clinical third T20I half-century, but the collapse of the middle order—with none of the remaining batters reaching double figures—poses a significant concern ahead of their upcoming series against India.

Zimbabwe’s bowling relied heavily on the opening pair of Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani. While Ngarava secured an early breakthrough and both bowlers remained economical, the supporting cast struggled to contain the Bangladesh batters. Tanzid Hasan anchored the chase with a composed performance, sharing half-century partnerships with both Parvez Hossain Emon and Towhid Hridoy. His 13th T20I fifty also moved him level with Shakib-al-Hasan for the second-most fifty-plus scores in Bangladesh’s T20I history.

Despite the T20I loss, Zimbabwe can take heart from a successful overall tour, having claimed victory in the one-off Test and the ODI series 2-1.

Myers provides much-needed stability

After a prolonged period of low scoring, Dion Myers delivered a commanding innings. Following an early aggressive start from Brian Bennett, Myers found his rhythm after the Powerplay. He accelerated significantly after Bennett’s departure, striking a six off Rishad Hossain and reaching his fifty on the very next delivery. Although he was eventually run out in the final over while attempting a sixth run, his contribution accounted for more than half of Zimbabwe’s total, providing a strong argument for his place in the lineup.

Saifuddin and Taskin seal the win

Zimbabwe appeared poised to reach a target of 160 when they were 118-3 after 16 overs, but the Bangladesh bowling unit tightened in the death overs. Mohammad Saifuddin proved decisive, claiming the wickets of Brad Evans and Clive Madande in consecutive deliveries to finish with 2-35. Abdul Gaffar Saqlain also provided crucial pressure with effective change-ups. Taskin Ahmed then delivered a masterful final over, conceding only five runs and ensuring Zimbabwe managed just 25 runs from their final four wickets.

Tanzid anchors the pursuit

Tanzid Hasan continued his prolific form, following up a leading run-scoring performance in the ODI series with another match-winning T20I knock. He navigated the initial threat of the new ball with care before steadily increasing the tempo. By targeting Tino Maposa during the latter stages, Tanzid reached his fifty in 45 balls and guided Bangladesh to victory with two balls remaining.

Late-game drama

The conclusion was far from routine. As Bangladesh approached the target, Brad Evans sparked a brief resurgence by bowling Mossadek Hossain and inducing a catch from Saifuddin. A controversial “dead ball” call during a subsequent delivery led to heated exchanges between the players and officials. However, the tension was broken when a boundary on the fourth ball of the over officially secured the series for Bangladesh.
