A BBC documentary will follow individuals convicted under the UK’s new National Security Act following an arson attack on a Ukrainian business orchestrated by Russian mercenaries.
The Telegram Terror Plot will utilize first-hand testimony, exclusive access, and unseen archive material to detail how the attacks unfolded. Last October, Dylan Earl and Jake Reeves were prosecuted for burning a Ukrainian-owned London business on behalf of Russia’s Wagner Group, causing £1M ($1.3M) in damages. They coordinated a group to execute the attack and surveilled other businesses, with authorities stating they “acted willingly as hostile agents for the Russian state.”
Produced by BBC Studios-backed Samphire Films, the documentary “examines troubling questions about vulnerability, manipulation, and the expanding influence of hostile-state actors in the UK,” according to the BBC. The project joins other Samphire Films works at Sheffield DocFest, including Being Muslim After 9/11 (a narrative about post-9/11 British Muslim experiences) and short films like Bel (a story of Kenyan artists Beldina Odenyo Onassis) and Aberfan: The People’s Fight (a revisiting of the 1966 coal tip disaster).
