Brennan made his return to the sideline following a 12-week suspension during the victory over Cavan, following an initial round one loss. Meanwhile, Dublin has shown consistent improvement with each subsequent performance.
Beggan suggests that the suspension, combined with Donegal manager Jim McGuinness avoiding a similar penalty following a confrontation with Kerry, may have fostered a “siege mentality.” Additionally, lackluster performances earlier in the season may have served as a wake-up call for the squad.
“His return to the lineup provides a significant boost, but we must acknowledge that Dublin narrowly secured a victory against Wicklow in the Leinster quarter-final,” Beggan noted.
“It is possible those close calls helped them improve; they may realize they aren’t as dominant as they believed and need to intensify their efforts. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ger offered similar motivation behind the scenes.”
“I wouldn’t be shocked if they secured a result this weekend. While I still favor a Kerry victory, this championship has proven to be highly unpredictable.”
Kerry has also gained momentum throughout the tournament. After an opening defeat to Donegal, they displayed clinical efficiency in their victories over Kildare and Armagh.
Beggan believes their narrow quarter-final victory against Tyrone could ultimately serve as a “blessing in disguise.”
“Some teams might believe Kerry is vulnerable, but much like Dublin, they are seeing players return to the fold. Three high-stakes matches will have significantly developed players like Joe O’Connor and Gavin White, which will be vital in the coming weeks.”
“Kerry remains the clear favorite, but the challenge from Tyrone will ensure they remain mentally sharp.”
