German authorities confirmed that police fatally shot Abdul Ballout, the primary suspect in Saturday evening’s car ramming attack during Berlin’s Pride march, following a confrontation in the Spandau district late Sunday.
Berlin police stated that Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese descent, was killed after he attacked officers with a bladed weapon during a search operation that lasted nearly 24 hours. Officials indicated that all evidence currently points to the incident being an act of Islamic terrorism.
The suspect was located around 6 p.m. local time at an allotment garden complex in Spandau, according to a statement released by Berlin police on social media. “According to initial findings, he ran towards officers while armed with a bladed weapon; police subsequently opened fire,” the statement read.
