After back-to-back victories over Pittsburgh and Duke, the North Carolina Tar Heels and head coach Bill Belichick could not sustain that surge in their ACC matchup against Syracuse.
The Orange defeated the Tar Heels in overtime on Saturday, 31-30. Syracuse’s game-winning effort came after UNC had scored seven points on the opening drive of the first overtime.
North Carolina entered the game as an 8.5-point favorite. The Tar Heels led by 10 in the third quarter, 20-10.
The loss dropped Belichick’s team to 4-3 for the year. They host No. 1 Miami next Saturday.
After that, UNC plays at UConn, Louisville, at Virginia, and NC State.
The Tar Heels finished 4-8 last year, in Belichick’s first season with the program.
