Blacks Solicitors is celebrating the expansion of its Real Estate Finance practice following the recent appointment of three new legal professionals, effectively almost doubling the team’s capacity.
The team now accounts for over 20% of the firm’s overall Real Estate department turnover, with average deal sizes having increased markedly over the past five years, routinely handling transactions exceeding eight figures.
More than half of the team’s instructions arise from referrals and longstanding industry relationships, and it served over 240 clients during the most recent fiscal year, among them Aldermore Bank PLC, NatWest, Together Commercial Finance, and Handelsbanken.
The team has recently welcomed Solicitor Ugochi Nwabuikwu, Associate Solicitor Alex Mathias, and Graduate Solicitor Apprentice Dev Matharu.
Ugochi focuses on secured finance and property refinancing, handling both separate and dual representation matters. Alex contributes more than four years of experience advising commercial lenders and borrowers on private lending, large‑scale investments, and development transactions. Dev, who joined earlier this year, will support the team while further developing his expertise.
Alex remarked, “Joining Blacks’ Real Estate Finance team offers an excellent opportunity to work on high‑value, complex property finance deals. The team’s extensive expertise in development, bridging, and portfolio finance aligns with my goal of gaining hands‑on experience across these areas.”
Thanks to an extensive regional and national client network, the Real Estate Finance team collaborates with prominent lenders and borrowers. A recent highlight includes acting for a funder that secured a £24.5 million acquisition of a 200‑plus‑property portfolio in Yorkshire, underscoring the team’s capability in high‑value, multi‑asset transactions.
Marcus Kaye, Head of Real Estate Finance at Blacks, added, “We are delighted to welcome Ugochi, Alex, and Dev as we build on recent progress. Their appointments reflect increasing demand for our services and further strengthen our Real Estate Finance offering to clients.”
Looking ahead, this expansion underscores our ambition to continue growing the team, broaden our client base, and deepen the trusted relationships we have cultivated with lenders and borrowers across the market.
The 34‑partner firm offers a comprehensive suite of legal services to commercial and private clients throughout Yorkshire and the wider UK. With over 250 employees, the firm remains committed to investing in its team as it continues to grow from strength to strength.
