Bloc Party have unveiled their new emotive single ‘Love Bombs’, available to stream now.
The track is taken from their upcoming seventh studio album ‘Anatomy Of A Brief Romance’, described by the band as their most personal work to date. Set for release on September 11 via cOnTAGIOUS LTD (distributed by Virgin Music Group), the album follows 2022’s ‘Alpha Games’ and chronicles the full arc of a relationship—from initial attraction through heartbreak and final farewell.
The synth-driven ‘Love Bombs’ follows single ‘Coming On Strong’ and explores themes of intense romance. Frontman Kele Okereke reflects: “At the start of a new relationship our feelings of connection can make us do dramatic things. ‘Love Bombs’ is the sound of a new love flowering, in beautiful romantic gestures. But under the surface is the ever present fear that maybe this new love, although shiny and great, maybe this new love might not last forever.”
Recorded across 14 tracks and produced by Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood), the album serves as a deeply personal memoir. Okereke wrote every lyric based on his own experiences, including his recent separation from the father of his children and a subsequent new romance. “Having this romance, this new thing emerge, it kept me sane, in a very dark time,” he shared. “I’m less prudish about sex and connection and intimacy now—I have no qualms talking about it, because that connection is important.”
An earlier interview with NME suggested the album would feature “disco heartbreak.” Working with Horn, known for his meticulous production style, influenced the record’s sound. “He’s made some of my favourite records of all time,” Okereke said. “He’s been making records for over 50 years—he knows all the tricks and has stories about everyone.”
Bloc Party recently debuted three new songs, including ‘Love Bombs’, during their BBC 6 Music Festival performance. Later this year, they’ll support Muse on their North American tour before joining Interpol for a UK and EU co-headline tour this autumn.
