The BMW M3 Touring 24H made a striking appearance during the Spa 24 Hours driver parade, rolling through the Belgian Ardennes with a genuine M-design roof box mounted on its boot. The modified estate wagon, which previously finished fourth overall at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, drew considerable attention from the motorsport community along the route between Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the city center.
BMW clarified that the roof box was not merely a marketing gesture, but a serious development initiative. “We used the event to combine series accessories from BMW with motorsport technology and demonstrate its performance capabilities,” the manufacturer explained to Motorsport.com Germany. “The latest generation of BMW roof boxes is currently in the final development and validation phase, making this test with the M3 Touring 24H an obvious choice.”
The aerodynamic roof box featured a special design tailored for the Touring body style, with development focused on reducing drag and minimizing noise levels. Despite its functional purpose, the accessory also served a practical role for spectators, transporting promotional materials for fans along the parade route.
The vehicle was completed with a rear wing and a passenger seat, fulfilling promises made during its initial presentation. However, BMW confirmed that this particular configuration will not appear at subsequent Spa 24 Hours events, as the roof box was removed for the remainder of the weekend.
The M3 Touring 24H will instead head to its next major appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, competing without the roof box but continuing to showcase BMW’s motorsport heritage on the famous hillclimb.
