Bolivia: Western Hemisphere Leaders Condemn Coup Attempt, Support Paz Government

The following joint statement was issued by the governments of the United States, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Original Text:

The members of Shield of the Americas strongly condemn persistent efforts to destabilize the democratically elected administration of President Rodrigo Paz in Bolivia. These attempts have manifested through orchestrated protests, fabricated roadblocks disrupting critical infrastructure, and deliberate obstruction of essential services such as food and medical supplies. Democratic governance, as expressed through the will of the Bolivian electorate, must prevail over destabilization tactics rooted in illegal projectiles and systemic coercion. The coalition unequivocally rejects external interference and calls for accountability against actors leveraging illicit networks—including drug trafficking and transnational crime—to fund destabilizing activities. We urge all actors with lawful concerns to engage constructively with the Paz administration through established dialogue channels, while condemning those who exploit public discontent to undermine institutional stability.
