While smartphones continue to grow, e‑readers are trending smaller. Boox, known for its compact Palma model, has introduced an even tinier device.
Preorders for the Boox Picco open today. Its display measures just 3.97 inches—roughly the size of a playing card—and is smaller than the recent Xteink X4 Pro’s 4.3‑inch screen. Priced at $100, the Picco is slated to ship in November.
An E‑Reader Designed for Productivity

The Picco features a monochrome e‑ink screen with 235 ppi and an adjustable front light offering warm‑ and cool‑tone options. A microSD slot supports up to 2 TB of storage, and a 16 GB card is included. Users can navigate via touchscreen or physical side buttons. The device includes a magnetic ring on its back for attachment to a smartphone.

Boox promises a streamlined OS centered on reading and digital utilities, marketed under the new “Tiles” lineup. Ebooks can be added via web, USB‑C, Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth. Built‑in productivity apps such as Pomodoro, Todo and Countdown position the Picco as both a reader and a work tool.
The author plans to test the unit soon and will compare it with other compact e‑readers when both the Picco and the upcoming Boox Palma 3 become available.
