Brandon Aiyuk’s social‑media activity has taken another intriguing turn.
Just days after removing two Instagram videos that criticized the San Francisco 49ers for refusing to release him, the disgruntled receiver posted a very different message.
Instead of taking shots at the organization, Aiyuk shared a short video of himself dancing in a robe and boxer shorts, captioned simply:
“Coming to an end zone near [you].”
The clip was widely interpreted as another sign of Aiyuk’s public unraveling, with one commentator likening the situation to a mash‑up of Britney Spears and Antonio Brown.
Nevertheless, the caption sparked speculation that Aiyuk could be on the verge of being released by San Francisco.
Just a week earlier, Aiyuk had accused the 49ers of being reluctant to let him leave and called the team that drafted him in 2020 “stupid” for paying his salary.
Deleting those videos may have been an olive branch amid an increasingly messy standoff between player and team.
Now the conversation has shifted to where Aiyuk might land if the 49ers eventually move on.
One destination that consistently surfaces is the Washington Commanders.
Aiyuk has openly displayed his admiration for Washington in recent months, posting photos of himself in Commanders gear and maintaining a visible connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The two share chemistry dating back to their days together at Arizona State, where Daniels threw 65 receptions and eight touchdown passes to Aiyuk during their final season.
Reports suggest Washington could be interested if Aiyuk reaches free agency, though the Commanders have shown little appetite for a trade. That leaves the 49ers holding most of the leverage as training camp approaches.
The complication is that Aiyuk has not appeared in an NFL game since October 20, 2024.
The 28‑year‑old suffered a severe knee injury—tearing his ACL, MCL and meniscus—that ended what should have been the start of a new chapter after signing a lucrative extension.
His absence from team‑supervised rehabilitation sessions reportedly led San Francisco to void the remaining guaranteed money in his contract and place him on the reserve/left squad list.
Before the turmoil, Aiyuk was coming off a dominant 2023 season in which he recorded 1,342 receiving yards and established himself as one of the league’s most efficient receivers. His ability to create explosive plays downfield made him a dangerous weapon.
For now, Aiyuk’s latest Instagram post signals either optimism or deepening delusion. Whether that optimism points toward Washington, another team, or a reconciliation with the 49ers remains unknown.
The question remains whether he can return to his prior level after a major knee injury and nearly two years away from game action.
After months of public frustration, the message is clear: Brandon Aiyuk believes he’ll be scoring touchdowns again soon.
