Brandon Aiyuk appears to be damaging his own prospects with the Washington Commanders, a team he could have joined through his former Arizona State teammate, quarterback Jay Daniels.
Earlier today, after a post inquiring about Washington’s interest in Aiyuk, a source confirmed that the Commanders would consider acquiring the wide receiver if Daniels advocated for him. The source also indicated that Daniels was indeed supportive.
News of the potential trade quickly ignited a social‑media firestorm. Aiyuk unfollowed Daniels on Instagram and then posted a series of Instagram‑story videos aimed at the quarterback.
In the first video, Aiyuk said, “You’re on my team now. You follow my rules. I’m a grown‑up. You’ll have to stop running your mouth if you want me to listen. Until then, no.”
The second video, set to silent footage, showed Aiyuk holding a pair of shoes behind a graphic that read, “Let’s run it 5! Let’s see! Need you available all season and I’ll do the same!”
Daniels appears to have responded by unfollowing Aiyuk as well. His current Instagram story features a photo of NBA star Kevin Durant giving a double‑thumbs‑down.
The tension may stem from a recent clip of a 49ers fan shouting, “Fuck Brandon Aiyuk!” at Daniels, to which Daniels laughed. Aiyuk reportedly did not appreciate the reaction.
Ultimately, Daniels’ stance could determine whether Aiyuk joins Washington. If Daniels backs the move, the Commanders’ front office is likely to follow suit; if not, the deal will not happen.
At present, the trade looks unlikely. The situation remains irrelevant until the 49ers release Aiyuk, which is expected only after he petitions the league for reinstatement from the reserve/left‑squad list and reports to training camp.
