American cyclist Brandon McNulty was involved in a road rage incident prior to Tuesday’s time trial during the Tour de France.
McNulty was confronted by an irate motorist who overtook him en route to the start of Stage 16, according to team CEO Mauro Gianetti. Gianetti confirmed to Eurosport that the driver stopped his vehicle after overtaking McNulty, resulting in a collision.
“It wasn’t a major incident, but it was unpleasant,” Gianetti stated, noting the driver was an unaffiliated member of the public.
McNulty sustained no injuries and was cleared to compete later that day.
Team leader Tadej Pogačar maintained a commanding five-minute lead over Remco Evenepoel heading into Tuesday’s technical 26.1-kilometer time trial along Lake Geneva’s Swiss border. Evenepoel claimed victory in Sunday’s Stage 15 following Jonas Vingegaard’s early exit due to injury. The race concludes on July 26 in Paris.
