Brazilian football icon Neymar announced his retirement from international competition following Brazil’s 2-1 round of 16 elimination by Norway.

The 34-year-old forward concluded his international career as Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, tallying 80 goals in 129 appearances.

Neymar debuted for the senior national team in 2010 and represented Brazil across four FIFA World Cup tournaments. His international achievements also include competing in two Olympic Games, where he earned a silver medal in 2012 and guided Brazil to gold in 2016.

During the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Neymar made two substitute appearances. He entered the tournament’s group stage match against Scotland and later scored a penalty in stoppage time during Brazil’s defeat to Norway.

Norway will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner of the Mexico versus England clash at Miami Stadium on July 11.
