Brigitte Bardot’s ballet flats, diamond rings and personal effects head to charity auction

Personal belongings of Brigitte Bardot — including Repetto ballet flats, diamond rings and her copy of the Kama Sutra — are set to go under the hammer on Monday, with proceeds benefiting her animal charity.

Admirers of the late cultural icon, who died last December at the age of 91, have been visiting in large numbers to view the nearly 300 lots on display at the Drouot auction rooms in central Paris.

The collection comes from Bardot’s two homes in Saint-Tropez, as well as her Paris apartment, parts of which have been recreated for the exhibition.

“Every item being offered bears the mark of an encounter, a commitment, a moment of happiness or a chapter in her life. Together, they tell the story of both the woman and the legend,” said Frank Guillou, her longtime secretary.

Bardot is widely regarded as one of the most influential female figures of the late 20th century. After rising to fame as a model and actress in the 1950s, she became a symbol of modern femininity and the sexual revolution before turning her attention to animal-rights activism.

Her later years were also marked by controversy, including criticism over homophobic remarks and repeated fines for inciting racial hatred.
