British Far-Right Suspect Held for Vandalizing Empty Migrant Boat in English Channel

LONDON — A far-right activist known for leading anti-migration demonstrations has been apprehended after allegedly slashing an inflatable vessel in the water.

Social media footage appears to depict 37-year-old Daniel Thomas wielding a knife on an inflatable raft, which held no migrants but included a rescue worker, as he yelled, “You’re in English territory.”

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed on Thursday that a 37-year-old suspect was taken into custody the evening prior on suspicion of criminal damage with intent to endanger life and jeopardizing vessel safety. Authorities stated he remained in detention.

U.K. law enforcement does not disclose suspects’ identities until formal charges are filed.

Thomas, who uses the alias Danny Tommo, has long been associated with far-right activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson. The Patriot Platform, a group founded by Thomas, orchestrated recent protests where masked men attempted to prevent migrants from reaching the U.K.

Earlier this month, masked protesters obstructed the port of Dover in southeast England and attempted to halt the disembarkation of migrants in Portsmouth along the southern coast.

Previous U.K. governments have failed to curb the number of individuals—exceeding 41,000 last year—who undertake the perilous journey across one of the world’s most congested maritime routes. The matter has been framed as a crisis by politicians such as Nigel Farage of the right-wing Reform UK party and has served as a focal point for anti-immigration campaigns.

The center-left government of Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that enhanced law enforcement cooperation between Britain and France has contributed to a reduction of over 40% in crossing attempts this year compared to 2025.
