Before Brittany Allen received an Emmy nomination, her role in *The Pitt* nearly excluded her from accolades altogether. Allen portrays Roxie Hamler, a character with terminal cancer in the series’ second season. Initially written as a guest character, her narrative evolved—with HBO’s scheduling a scene involving her death removed prior to broadcast. This effectively kept her under seven aired episodes, which tied her category eligibility to HBO’s guest actor and actress divisions rather than supporting roles.

Allen learned of her exclusion from HBO’s official Emmy contender list via a former publicist, prompting her to submit herself independently. “You don’t take it personally,” she told *Variety*. “You see the facts and decide what to do with them. In my case, that meant self-advocacy.” Her gamble resulted in a first-time Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Allen’s career spans diverse television appearances, including as Popclaw in *The Boys* (2019) and as Laura Moser, Dexter Morgan’s mother, in *Dexter: Original Sin.* In 2010, she achieved a Daytime Emmy win for her role in All My Children, achieved through self-submission two years after departing the soap opera. “You have to fight for yourself,” she stated. “The industry is built on hype—if you’re not creating it, carve out your own path.”

HBO’s during Emmy season focused on directing achievements, which secured a single Primetime nomination for Wyle’s work on Wyle’s episode Ken. The network submitted six episodes for consideration, but only one met critical thresholds for nomination committees evaluating directorial excellence in drama series.
