Thousands gathered at Brussels’ Cinquantenaire Park as the U.S. Embassy in Belgium marked the 250th anniversary of American independence with its “Freedom 250” celebration.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and several U.S. ambassadors attended the festivities, which included military ceremonies, a commemorative cake, live musical performances, a drone display, and fireworks.
While officials underscored the enduring partnership between Belgium and the United States, some attendees expressed reservations regarding the current U.S. administration, noting policy disagreements on foreign affairs and domestic matters despite the historic occasion.
