Brydon Carse is poised to make his first competitive appearance since January after earning a place in Durham’s T20 Blast squad, marking his recovery from a hand injury.

The seamer has been selected for Durham’s North Group clash against the Leicestershire Foxes, scheduled for 18:30 BST, as the side aims for just its fourth victory in this season’s tournament.

The 30-year-old last featured in the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney, where England succumbed to a 4-1 series defeat.

Across the five-Test tour of Australia, Carse participated in every match and emerged as England’s top wicket-taker with 22 dismissals.

He had been expected to join Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League thereafter, but the injury to his right hand—his bowling hand—forced his withdrawal.

Having claimed 58 wickets in 14 Test appearances, Carse also sat out England’s recent Test series against New Zealand, which the team lost last month.

England’s next assignment, a home series against Pakistan, begins on 20 August, but with no red-ball cricket preceding it, Carse is instead set to represent Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred.
