BT21 Characters Set to Join McDonald’s Happy Meals Collection in July

BT21 characters are heading to McDonald’s Happy Meals. Following a 2023 partnership in Asia featuring chicken nugget containers, the latest collaboration will debut globally on July 14, with toys exclusive to Happy Meal purchases.

Developed by LINE FRIENDS, BT21 features seven character designs representing each BTS member. Since launching in 2017, the brand has expanded across fashion, beauty, and food partnerships. Previous McDonald’s collaborations included TinyTan figurines, while 2023’s limited Asian release saw BT21 characters featured on nugget containers, selling out quickly.

Meet the BT21 Characters

KOYA-RM

A blue koala with removable ears, KOYA embodies RM’s affection for cute things. His purple nose symbolizes love, and his detachable ears fall off when startled but can be replaced.

RJ – Genie

Jin’s alpaca-inspired character wears a red-orange scarf. Named “RJ” for “AL” (alpaca) and “J” (Jin), RJ enjoys eating—much like his real-life counterpart.

SHOOKY – SUGA

A mischievous brown cookie with arms, legs, and a buck tooth, SHOOKY was designed by Jung Kook. His name combines SUGA’s nickname with “cookie.”

MANG – j-hope

Originally a mysterious purple figure with a horse mask, MANG revealed in 2023 to be a chipmunk. His name means “pony” in Korean, reflecting j-hope’s love for dance and his personality.

CHIMMY – Jimin

A white puppy in a yellow hoodie with black ears, CHIMMY represents Jimin and the group’s playful spirit. His face mirrors Jimin’s early BTS look.

TATA – V

V’s heart-shaped-headed alien has a blue body with yellow spots and lips. His name uses a cute sound, reflecting V’s passion for unique character design.

COOKY – Jung Kook

Jung Kook’s rabbit character has a bent right ear and a determined look. Named for his fan nickname “Kookie,” COOKY symbolizes strength and workout enthusiasm.

FROM – ARMY

V introduced VAN, a robot guardian for BT21, designed to protect the characters like ARMY protects BTS. The grey-and-white robot has XO-shaped eyes.

BT21 Universe Story

According to LINE FRIENDS, BT21’s tale follows Prince TATA from Planet BT, who journeys to Earth with robot VAN to become a “UNIVERSTAR.” He recruits six companions—KOYA, RJ, SHOOKY, MANG, CHIMMY, and COOKY—to achieve cosmic stardom.

McDonald’s Collaboration Details

The July 14 launch marks BT21’s largest toy partnership yet. Each Happy Meal will include a random character toy tied to the global rollout. McDonald’s has not disclosed pricing or regional availability details at this time.
