Burnley Negotiating Appointment of Nicky Hayen as New Manager

Burnley are advancing negotiations to appoint Nicky Hayen, head coach of Genk, to fill the managerial vacancy.

The 45‑year‑old Hayen has emerged as Burnley’s primary candidate after Scott Parker’s mutual‑consent exit in April.

BBC Sport sources indicate that talks with Genk over Hayen’s appointment are still underway, though no agreement has been reached.

Prior to Genk, Hayen coached Welsh club Haverfordwest County from 2021 to 2022 and then had a stint at Club Brugge, which ended with his dismissal in December 2025.

He joined Genk later that month and guided the team to a seventh‑place league finish, though they failed to qualify for European competition.

Burnley had earlier approached the Football Association of Wales about hiring Wales men’s national team head coach Craig Bellamy, but those talks fell apart over disagreements regarding the backroom staff composition.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards is reported to have declined Burnley’s invitation to succeed Parker.

Burnley’s squad is scheduled to travel to the United States for pre‑season training, with friendly fixtures arranged against FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake.

The Turf Moor club finished 19th in the Premier League last season, resulting in immediate relegation to the Championship.
