Burnley are set to write themselves into the history books for all the wrong reasons if they fail to defeat Portsmouth at home on Saturday, 31 October.

The Clarets have not secured a home league victory since their 2-0 win against Leeds United in the Premier League on 18 October, 2025.

Sheffield Wednesday currently occupies the unenviable top spot, holding the record for the longest home league winless run in England’s top four divisions.

The Owls went 376 days without a home league win between April 2025 and May 2026.

Burnley’s upcoming home clash against Pompey in the Championship arrives 377 days after their triumph over Leeds. A defeat would hand the Clarets the outright record.

The record is limited to teams that have competed within England’s top four leagues, excluding those that have dropped out of the English Football League and returned.

Since their victory over Leeds twelve months ago, Burnley have played 21 home league matches, with the last six coming in the current Championship season and the previous fifteen in the Premier League.

Of those 21 fixtures, the Clarets recorded 10 draws and suffered defeats in the remaining 11.

Burnley did manage a home win in the FA Cup in January 2026, beating Millwall in the third round, but were subsequently knocked out in the fourth round by Mansfield Town, also at Turf Moor.

In the first round of this season’s Carabao Cup, Burnley defeated Notts County, though they had to go through a penalty shootout to do so.
