Burnley Rebuffed in Pursuit of Rob Edwards

Rob Edwards has declined an approach from Burnley, leaving the Clarets still searching for a new permanent manager.

Edwards, who was unexpectedly dismissed as Wolves head coach earlier this month, had emerged as a primary candidate for the vacancy at Turf Moor.

He remained under consideration even as Burnley pursued Craig Bellamy to succeed Scott Parker. However, Bellamy ultimately opted to remain with the Wales national team following a last-minute change of heart.

As a result, Burnley remain without a managerial appointment two months after Parker’s departure, which followed the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The Burnley squad is scheduled to return for pre-season fitness assessments on Monday, ahead of a tour of the United States next month. Their first friendly, against FC Cincinnati, is scheduled for July 11.

Edwards became available following his exit from Wolves, where the 43-year-old had previously received the club’s backing despite their Premier League relegation.

Having joined from Middlesbrough in November, the former defender was tasked with stabilizing the side and securing a return to the top flight, but he has since been replaced by Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto.
