Cage The Elephant has officially detailed their forthcoming seventh studio album, Dying In Reverse, slated for release on February 5, 2027, via Big Loud Rock. The announcement arrives alongside the album’s latest single, the guitar-driven “Make It Easy.”
The band previously teased the record with the title track in September, following the earlier single “Beaches In Tennessee.” The new track “Make It Easy” is available to stream now.
“This record’s turned out to be such a special one for us,” frontman Matthew Shultz said in a statement. “Without doubt, one of the most creatively gratifying experiences we’ve had as a group yet. After all these years already remaining so tightly knit, it really does feel like this album managed to pull us even closer together.”
“In a way, it’s a goodbye to the past, closing the door on an era, with a renewed perspective grounded in the present while also walking towards the future with hope and gratitude. Signifying a rebirth of sorts. It’s got all these interesting little windows into the memories and experiences that have shaped who we are as individuals, as well as ultimately a band. I just love it so much. We can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Last year, the group wrapped a stint as special guests on Oasis’s ‘Live ’25’ tour and immediately returned to the studio to finish the album.
“The Oasis tour really reignited our fire to dream and continue to dream,” Shultz explained. “I think we realised there’s still room to evolve and push ourselves, especially in the live realm. That tour added to our overall passion and desire to see this thing through. When it was over, we decided not to take a break… We pretty much went straight into the studio to start making music.”
The record follows a turbulent period for Shultz, who was detained in 2023 on firearms charges stemming from what a court determined was a psychotic episode induced by prescribed medication. “The arrest, without a doubt, was a miracle,” he told NME in 2024. “It saved my life. Following the arrest I was hospitalised for two months. Then I had six months of outpatient therapy afterwards and I feel completely recovered. But obviously, with recovery, it’s a lifelong thing. You don’t experience something like that and not deal with the scars for the rest of your life, I’m sure.”
Describing the new material as a “new chapter,” Shultz added: “Musically, we always want to reinvent Cage The Elephant. We’ve discovered a whole new side to our band, how we look at things, and how we make art. You’re growing constantly as an artist, and I think we’ve tapped into that growth. I do feel like we’re making the best music we’ve ever made. If anything, it’s definitely the most inspired.”
The band is scheduled to embark on a UK and European tour in 2027.
