Bears quarterback Caleb Williams notes that offseason practices have become more enjoyable this year.
Last season, Williams described feeling overwhelmed while learning Ben Johnson’s offense, comparing it to drowning. He recalled a discussion with running backs coach Eric Studesville, where he likened the challenge to struggling to breathe and wait for a lifeline. This year, however, he feels he can “calmly swim” through the preparation, building on last year’s foundation.
“It’s a hell of a lot more fun than last year,” Williams said. “It’s about refining what we started last year—play calls, terminology, and communication—rather than scrambling to learn it all at once. Starting earlier and growing from that base gives us a real advantage.”
Williams emphasized gaining confidence in placing the ball precisely where receivers expect it. He aims for the Bears to lead the NFL in scoring, a goal that aligns with the team’s aspirations.
