For over a decade, Canucks Army established itself as a fixture in the Vancouver sports media landscape. The site rose to prominence during the Mike Gillis era, a time when the franchise’s willingness to spend and innovate made a Stanley Cup feel genuinely attainable. Though that championship window closed, the outlet persisted, evolving from a niche analytics blog into a dominant news and analysis platform.

In its early years, mainstream outlets drove the majority of hockey discourse. Canucks Army—often abbreviated as C.A.—cultivated a devoted following by staking out forward-thinking analytical positions, even before its traffic figures matched its influence. Roughly six years ago, a shift in editorial focus and technical strategy catalyzed significant growth. Since the spring of 2020, the site has flourished into one of the market’s leading voices, helping set the agenda for the fanbase.

Today, that brand identity enters a new phase. Canucks Army has been retired in favor of Daily Faceoff Vancouver. The change extends across the entire Nation Network portfolio—OilersNation, FlamesNation, and TheLeafsNation are undergoing similar rebrands—confirmed Nation Network editor-in-chief David Quadrelli on Wednesday.

The move is notable given the strong brand equity each site held in its respective market. While no official rationale was provided, the decision likely stems from trademark considerations; professional sports organizations have historically objected to independent media outlets incorporating protected team names into their business titles, and the Canucks have been no exception. Whatever the catalyst, the rebrand draws a clear line between the outlet’s origins as a fan blog and its current standing as a professional news operation.

According to a Wednesday announcement, the transition across all channels will unfold over the coming months, with completion targeted for January.

“We are very excited about this next chapter because of what it unlocks for our business,” said Jay Downton, co-founder and president of the Nation Network. “By taking this step, we will be able to unlock more content for our fans, provide greater opportunities for our teammates, and ultimately drive the next step for TNN and Daily Faceoff as a hockey platform.

“This evolution to our hockey sites will help us unlock stronger connections to both the teams and the league, and we look forward to continuing to empower our trusted teams to create high-quality local content for Canucks fans.”
