Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than a million copies in its first day.

Capcom continues its impressive streak with hits like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata. Its newest release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, launched strongly by moving over a million units on day one. Building on this momentum, the company plans to revisit several long-dormant franchises in its portfolio.
“Alongside our commitment to delivering major new titles annually, Capcom is intensifying efforts to reactivate intellectual properties that haven’t seen recent releases,” the company stated in an announcement celebrating the sales milestone for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. “We aim to enhance shareholder value by fully utilizing our extensive content library, beginning with this title.”
The game marks the first mainline Onimusha title since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006. While creating new IP remains valuable—as demonstrated by Pragmata‘s success—established franchises offer reliable opportunities. Capcom is already advancing sequels for Okami and Mega Man: Dual Override, with numerous other options available.
Several franchises present strong revival potential. A new Dino Crisis entry would fulfill long-standing fan demand, as the series has been inactive since 2003. Recent developments are promising: Capcom released a compilation of the first two games last year and ported them to Steam in February. Additionally, Dino Crisis 2 will join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog later this year—strategic moves that typically reintroduce players to beloved franchises before new announcements.
The Dead Rising series could also return following the successful remake of its debut title. Similarly, a new Lost Planet game remains desirable despite the franchise’s absence since Lost Planet 3 in 2013.
Two particularly significant franchises appear ready for revival. Devil May Cry last received a mainline installment in 2019 with Devil May Cry 5, while Ace Attorney has lacked a new title for a full decade. As Capcom’s fifth-largest IP with 41 million lifetime sales, Devil May Cry trails only Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Mega Man. The Ace Attorney series has sold 15 million copies worldwide.
