After defeating the Rams in Week 6, the Arizona Cardinals suffered a 30-16 home loss to the Broncos on Sunday, extending their home defeat streak.
The defeat highlighted ongoing offensive inefficiencies, shifting focus to quarterback Jacoby Brissett. However, head coach Mike LaFleur emphasized in his Monday press conference that the team is maintaining Brissett as their starting quarterback.
“He’s still the starter,” LaFleur stated in the team’s official transcript. “It’s a collective issue. Moving the ball is one challenge, but finishing drives in scoring positions is another. We’ve entered the red zone 10 times in our last two games, yet we haven’t capitalized. Improvement starts with me, but it also requires execution from the players and situational adjustments from me. When clarity is there, they must capitalize.”
“We’re not avoiding accountability for finishing. I don’t believe we should be having these discussions right now.”
Brissett leads the league with 282 passing attempts this season, completing 65% of his throws for 1,600 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions across seven games. The high volume of passes reflects Arizona’s frequent need to play catch-up. Meanwhile, backup quarterback Carson Beck’s availability remains uncertain due to a back spasm that sidelined him from practice last week.
“It just flared up on him,” LaFleur explained. “When you torque the way these guys do, back spasms aren’t fun. I’m not sure anyone’s experienced this here before, but they’re tough.”
The Cardinals now gear up for a Week 8 road matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, with their next scheduled bye week in Week 14.
