Carl Froch has analyzed Conor Benn’s potential to upset Ryan Garcia in an upcoming welterweight title clash, which is poised for an official announcement in September. Their bout was expected to be revealed during a UFC weigh-in event on Friday, though procedural hurdles persist on Garcia’s side, primarily regarding DAZN and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy. Benn, 29, has already secured his agreement to challenge for Garcia’s WBC world title in Las Vegas on September 12. The British boxer, signed to Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing earlier in the year, recently outpointed a weakened Regis Prograis over 10 rounds in April. However, the promotional and broadcast framework for the fight—anticipated to stream on Netflix—remains complicated due to Garcia’s existing promotional ties with Golden Boy and DAZN.
Discussing the matchup during a YouTube livestream, Froch suggested Garcia’s superior skill would likely prevail, offering Benn just a 30% probability of victory. “This one is exciting, because you get to find out where Conor Benn belongs. Does he belong at world level? Ryan Garcia… Would you say he’s an elite-level champion? He’s been down, he’s been beat, [but] you’ve got to say he’s world-class. So this is a massive step-up for Conor Benn. I’m not sure it’s the fight he will win. He probably can win it, if he gets the tactics right, but it’s a really tough ask. He’s the underdog – he’s probably 70/30 against,” Froch stated.

Garcia secured the WBC title by knocking out Mario Barrios in the first round and subsequently defeating him by unanimous decision in February.
