After years of limited releases and occasional live shows, Carly Simon is preparing to return to the studio with Comes in Waves, her first collection of new original songs since 2008’s This Kind of Love. The album will be available on August 14. Below is the debut single, “Howl.”

The project, co‑written and produced with David Spencer, features one of the late John Forté’s final recordings, according to the press release. Simon, a longtime friend of Forté, played a pivotal role in his release from prison in 2008. The album also includes contributions from her children Ben and Sally Taylor, as well as collaborators Paul Samwell‑Smith and Frank Filipetti.

In describing the single, Simon said, “‘Howl’ exists in the space between betrayal and forgiveness, where anger must be voiced before it can be released. It’s about letting frustration out so it doesn’t simmer. The song starts in anger and moves toward forgiveness, addressing any situation where trust has been broken.”
