Jamie Carragher Faces Bankruptcy Petition Over Unpaid Tax Claim
Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool and England centre‑half, now faces a court decision after HMRC filed a bankruptcy petition linked to an outstanding tax liability.
Record filings obtained by the BBC indicate that the petition was lodged on Wednesday against James Lee Duncan Carragher.
His representatives have been asked to respond, though neither has issued a formal comment yet.
“We only petition for bankruptcy as a last resort,” said the lawyer handling the case.
Carragher continued to appear regularly on Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage, the “Stick To Football” programme, and CBS Sports’ Champions League broadcasts despite retiring from Liverpool in 2013.
