ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Employees Union has formally opposed the agency’s proposal to outsource sanitation operations, citing potential job risks and legal violations.
“The CDA administration is advancing plans to privatize the sanitation department, creating significant anxiety among thousands of workers,” the union stated in an official press release.
A Consultative Council meeting of the CDA Mazdoor Union took place at the Sanitation Office in Sector G-6, Islamabad, attended by General Secretary Chaudhry Mohammad Yasin, President Aurangzeb Khan, and other representatives.
Union leaders underscored the critical role of sanitation workers, particularly Christian employees, in maintaining the city’s cleanliness under challenging conditions. They highlighted that these workers endure extreme weather, often without sufficient protective equipment or basic infrastructure.
Despite their dedication, the union noted, workers lack adequate site offices, rest areas, and other essential facilities. They emphasized that existing rulings by the Islamabad High Court and the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) support their position.
Proceeding with privatization, the union argued, would contravene these judicial orders and constitute contempt of court.
