In Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has resolved to evict illegal occupants from its G-6 flats.
The notice, citing the Islamabad High Court judgment of 13 February 2023 and subsequent Supreme Court orders of 1 June 2023 and 30 July 2025, states that the occupants of the CDA flats in Aabpara Sector G‑6 have no legal basis to retain possession.
They are required to vacate the premises within seven days of the notice’s issuance; otherwise, the flats will be vacated promptly.
The CDA built the flats near Aabpara Market and had planned to transfer them to the housing ministry for allocation to government officials.
However, the agreement with the housing ministry was not finalized before the 2005 earthquake, after which the flats were occupied by earthquake survivors and displaced individuals.
In 2007, during the Lal Masjid operation, police personnel began residing in the flats, and many other government employees continue to do so.
An official noted that the 200 flats, completed by the CDA in 2003 as part of a redevelopment project sanctioned by the federal cabinet in 1998, were intended to replace outdated government quarters and provide secure housing for employees.
The official remarked that the G‑6 flats, once seen as a symbol of modern Islamabad, are now plagued by neglect, unfulfilled promises, and sewage overflows.
Sources indicate that, over the years, the flats have been illegally occupied, primarily by police personnel.
A joint survey by the CDA and the Estate Office found that the majority of the 200 flats are occupied by police officials, while the remainder are held by CDA staff, federal agencies, and private individuals.
Upon contact, CDA spokesperson Shahid Kiani said the authority would investigate the issue.
He added that the matter will be decided according to applicable rules and regulations.
