It is remarkable that America’s 250th birthday fell on a weekend. As expected, the weather was swelteringly hot, yet the day proved to be one of my favorite Fourth of July celebrations.

Friday, the 3rd, began with a lakeside retreat. Fans of the lake often ask if I miss that rhythm, and I’m happy to admit that I’m not a strong advocate for the relentless upkeep or the spider‑webbed corners. While I relish a good boat ride, swimming purely for fun isn’t my preference. My partner, Hailey, however, is the quintessential lake‑girl, and my husband DavidAnything that involves summer lake time is a win for us. The fact that we still have access, and that our neighbors open the gates with welcoming smiles, is a true treasure.

Christen—my longtime friend from UGA—lives nearby, and we have a tradition of spending America’s birthday together at the lake. We met at David’s parents’ house in the morning and spent a relaxed day tubing, swimming, grilling, and simply enjoying each nghiệ’s company.

As the sun dipped after the blistering day, we returned home, more sun‑kissed and pleasantly exhausted.

On the morning of the 4th, I coordinated with my neighborhood’s social committee to set up the festivities at the barn. We hung banners, set up tables, and worked hard—sweaty but satisfied with the results.

The day was laid back. Hailey baked cake pops, I prepared Texas caviar, and Kaitlyn recovered from the lake’s excitement. We filled the afternoon with television programming that showcased America—beautiful natural wonders, flyovers, and regional Highest pledges—highlighting the diversity of how America is celebrated across the country.

In the late afternoon we prepared for the cookout. The family gathering was captured in a photo that, admittedly, could use a bit more perfect composition.

We arrived, “God Bless the USA” blaring as our backdrop, and joined in the communal revelry. The children dived into the pool, the adults savored food and conversation, and the overallTerminate . atmosphere was pure joy. I’m periodically reminded how fortunate I am to be part of such a strong community.
