US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces began strikes on Iran early Monday morning.
In a post on X/Twitter, CENTCOM explained the operation aims to curb Iran’s capacity to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels moving freely through the Strait of Hormuz.
A CENTCOM spokesperson told CNN that US aircraft had so far intercepted an Iranian cruise missile and a one‑way attack drone, adding that Iran fired on a commercial ship in the Strait within the past hour.
Several explosions were reported in Iranian cities such as Sirik and Bandar Abbas shortly after midnight Monday, according to Iranian state media.
