As part of Ryan Blaney’s new ‘On The Gas’ series, in which he invites celebrities for a high‑speed lap around the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson appeared in the latest episode.
Ochocinco spent eleven seasons as an NFL wide receiver, earning six Pro Bowl selections, and still holds the record for most career receiving yards with the Cincinnati Bengals.
After reaching 180 mph on the oval and answering questions from the 2023 NASCAR Cup champion, Ochocinco was asked by the production crew about Stephen A. Smith’s recent remarks. Smith revived the old claim that NASCAR drivers—and even golfers—are not athletes.
“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about; he’s never been in the car,” Ochocinco replied after stepping out. “If Smith came out here, rode shotgun, and saw that forty cars are on the track on race day, he’d quickly understand why these drivers are athletes. One mistake can be fatal—not just in the NFL or NBA, but here, where a single error can cost a life. Excelling at this level demands elite athleticism.”
Ochocinco also took a turn on the IMS road course with Blaney driving. Previous guests on the series have included actor Keegan‑Michael Key and YouTubers Westen Champlin and The Stradman.
