Chamari Athapaththu hit a superb unbeaten 106 as Sri Lanka cruised to a nine‑wicket win against Ireland, keeping their World Cup semi‑final hopes alive.
Ireland slumped to 18/3 in sunny Bristol before captain Gaby Lewis (59) and Leah Paul (20) forged a 66‑run partnership, guiding their side to 130/5.
Sri Lanka captain Athapaththu accelerated to her best World Cup score – the tournament’s highest to date – reaching 106 from 61 balls, sealing victory at 134/1 with 4.3 overs remaining.
The Lions move onto four points and must defeat Scotland on Friday, while hoping other results go their way, to secure a top‑two finish in Group 2 and a semi‑final berth.
Ireland have now lost all 21 of their World Cup matches; they finish their campaign against the West Indies on Saturday.
