Charley Hull is set to chase her first major title at this week’s Amundi Evian Championship.
The LPGA star has finished runner‑up at five majors, most recently at last month’s U.S. Women’s Open, but has yet to claim a championship. Her showing in Evian could change that narrative.
At the Evian Resort Club, the fourth women’s major of the season, Hull rebounded from a struggling start to post a stunning five‑under‑66 in Thursday’s opening round, closing a distant two shots behind the early leader.
A moment of lightheartedness at the 15th hole is credited by Hull for that remarkable finish: a quick ice‑cream Terence delivered during play. Hull has taken to jokingly claiming the sweet treat spurred her momentum.

The hot Thursday weather at Evian Resort Club set a cozy backdrop for the unexpected scene. While others cooled with performance, Hull received a personal ice‑cream cone that appeared to contain a single scoop of vanilla.
It was not a new nutritional strategy, nor a break from cigarettes (or vaping). In a brief press encounter, Hull clarified that the ice‑cream was not intended for her.
“Everyone is going to think the ice cream is for me. It’s not – it’s for Adsy,” she told reporters, referencing her caddie Adam Woodward.
“It’s mine. I’m not the athlete in this relationship,” Woodward confirmed.
Hull reiterated her stance in a post‑round press conference and added that the treat had been given to her caddie by her boyfriend.
“I didn’t eat the ice cream. My boyfriend got it for my caddie,” Hull explained. “So I held it for a minute while he was putting my club in the bag.”

Whether luck or a subtle culinary boost, Hull’s fortunes truly shifted after the ice‑cream arrived. Beginning her round with a bogey, she found herself at two over par after six holes. By the 15th, she had clawed back to one under, and the rest of the day brought a run of five under for the total.
Her closing sequence started with a birdie at 15, immediately after the ice‑cream hand‑off, followed by a second consecutive birdie on 16 that pushed her to three under. A spectacular eagle on 18 cemented her position in contention.
Hull acknowledged that the treat may have contributed to her performance.
“I kind of fought back, and then I ended pretty good. I felt quite good. I think it was the ice cream that my caddie had on the 15th hole,” she joked. “It’s not shy kids don’t get sweets, it’s shy caddies don’t get ice cream.”
While Hull denies eating the ice‑cream itself, she noted that food thinking persisted throughout her round, citing a disciplined eating routine.
“I eat every two holes – a bite of my bar, a special bar, a juice, a banana,” Hull explained. “I drink plenty of water and electrolytes at each hole. Eating is key; I make sure to eat on the third, fifth, seventh, and often every hole.”
Even with thorough nutrition, Hull admitted feeling “pretty starving” after the round and left her remarksDiplomatic before heading to physio, hinting she might “shoot off” next event.
