Charli XCX has released her reflective new single ‘Camera’, accompanied by a video directed by Aidan Zamiri and starring Vincent Cassel.
The track serves as the latest preview of her upcoming album ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, slated for release this Friday, July 24, via Atlantic. It follows the singles ‘Rock Music’, ‘SS26’, and ‘Wink Wink’.
‘Camera’ is a restrained, mid‑tempo track that blends guitar‑driven electronic pop with a hazier, more personal sound, diverging from the club‑focused aesthetic of ‘Brat’.
Lyrically, she reflects on insecurities about pursuing an acting career, singing: “It makes me question what I’m doing / Do I wanna make music / Am I being fucking stupid / If I try to be a girl on the screen when I’m turning 34?”
The video shows Cassel as an actor struggling on a film set while Charli directs from behind a large studio camera. As his frustration mounts, he references his iconic pose from *Hate* and points a finger gun at his own head.
Cassel rose to international prominence with his performance in Mathieu Kassovitz’s 1995 film *Hate*. He has since appeared in *Irreversible*, *Eastern Promises*, *Black Swan*, *Ocean’s Twelve* and *Jason Bourne*.
Zamiri, a longtime collaborator of Charli, has directed her videos for ‘360’, the Billie Eilish‑featured ‘Guess’, ‘Rock Music’, and ‘Wink Wink’. He also directed Eilish’s ‘Birds Of A Feather’ video and made his feature debut with the Charli‑starring mockumentary *The Moment*.
The black‑and‑white artwork for ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ was captured by Zamiri and features John Cale, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, and director Martin Scorsese.
Charli debuted ‘Camera’ at an intimate Brooklyn pop‑up show earlier this month, where she also performed unreleased tracks ‘Playboy Bunny’ and ‘Take Away The Music’, with special guests Kim Petras, Clairo, and Underscores.
She will headline Reading & Leeds next month and subsequently launch a North American arena tour with Underscores in September.
Charli recently discussed spending time in Paris with Madonna, noting that their joint outing helped quell rumors of a feud. She described the experience as “very inspiring” and said she enjoyed hearing Madonna talk about her relationship with pop, fashion, and the dancefloor.
