Charli XCX debuted several tracks from her forthcoming project *Music, Fashion, Film* during an intimate performance in Brooklyn on Friday.
She opened the show at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, a considerably smaller venue than her recent arena tour, with three premiere performances from her upcoming album, including “Playboy Bunny,” “SS26,” and “Camera.”
During the concert, XCX welcomed three guest performers. Opening act Underscores, featured on her upcoming Music, Fashion, Film Tour, performed their collaborative track “Music” with her. Pop star Kim Petras joined for a rendition of “Jeep,” and Clairo closed the surprise set with a cover of “Sofia.”
Shifting away from the *Brat* era — only “Apple” was included — XCX concentrated on her new material, debuting the unreleased “Take Away the Music” and closing the MHOW set with “Wink Wink” and “Rock Music” by *M, F, F*.
After a second intimate show on July 14 at London’s Scala, XCX is slated for a larger headline appearance at Lollapalooza on July 31, marking the first of four festival dates this summer, including Outside Lands in San Francisco and Reading & Leeds in August. The Music, Fashion, Film Tour officially launches in September.
*Music, Fashion, Film* is scheduled for release on July 24. Despite the initial single “Rock Music,” XCX has indicated that the record will not be classified strictly as a rock album in her recent *Rolling Stone* cover feature.
“Obviously, there has been much discussion about me releasing a rock album, which I never claimed,” she remarked. “In truth, I have never approached genre in a binary fashion; it feels like an outdated concept. I don’t even categorize it as a genre — it’s simply me, A. G. Cook, and Finn Keane doing what we do.”
