Chelsea are looking to try and sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth – but look certain to have to wait almost a year.
Chelsea’s failure to sign a midfielder on deadline day became one of the big stories of the summer transfer window.
Their top targets all summer were said to be Alex Scott of Bournemouth and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace. However, the Blues did not actually enter serious bidding for them, deterred by their clubs’ valuation demands.
That situation is expected to evolve, and the Blues are now laying groundwork for a potential move next summer. Their midfield depth has been stretched thin just weeks into the season, and they may need an emergency solution in January if Moises Caicedo cannot stay fit.
Chelsea may need temporary midfield solution as Bournemouth hold firm
FlashScore’s Dean Jones advises that Chelsea should not attempt to sign Scott in January:
“Sources continue to insist they believe Scott will see out this entire season with Bournemouth – and that means Chelsea are going to have to think carefully about their approach to midfield recruitment.”
Instead, he suggests the Blues could “make early inroads with Bournemouth to ensure they secure Scott in the next summer window.”
Given the constraints, a January loan or quick purchase may be the best option while they wait for the next transfer window.
