Chelsea appear poised to revisit their pursuit of Roma midfielder Manu Kone during the upcoming January transfer window, according to recent reports.
The France international has consistently delivered strong performances since joining Roma in Serie A and made a notable impact representing his country at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
Reports from Simon Phillips suggest that Chelsea are preparing to explore a renewed bid for Kone in January, following an initial assessment of the player during the summer transfer period. The move makes strategic sense for the Blues as they seek to reinforce their midfield options.
Chelsea’s transfer activity in the summer was limited after selling key midfielder Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City on deadline day, leaving insufficient time to secure a replacement. They attempted to expedite a deal for Monaco’s Lamine Camara, but negotiations fell through late in the window.
Kone presents himself as an ideal candidate to address Chelsea’s midfield needs mid-season, offering both experience and quality in the engine room.
Chelsea Evaluating Midfield Options Including Manu Kone

While Kone may not be their sole focus, Phillips’ report indicates that Chelsea are also monitoring other midfield talents such as Alex Scott and Adam Wharton as potential targets.
However, pursuing a player like Kone could prove more feasible compared to acquiring established stars from rival Premier League clubs during the January window.
Bournemouth has been resolute in stating that Scott is unavailable for transfer, and Crystal Palace is likely to resist offers for Wharton as well.
Chelsea may find greater success in negotiating with Roma for Kone’s signature, potentially securing the midfielder without incurring excessive costs.
The 25-year-old has previously been associated with moves to Liverpool and Manchester United, though those rumors preceded United’s acquisition of Carlos Baleba.
Given the interest Kone is likely to attract from multiple clubs, Chelsea would benefit from acting swiftly if they wish to secure his services this winter.
