Chavarria to replace Cucurella

Chelsea eye Pep Chavarria as the ideal successor to Marc Cucurella.

The club confirmed Cucurella’s unexpected move to Madrid earlier this month and are still searching for an appropriate left‑back replacement.

Jorrel Hato is anticipated to start at left‑back next season, yet manager Xabi Alonso still desires a reliable deputy behind him.

Chavarria has surfaced as a primary target for Chelsea, with a £21 million release clause making him an attractive, cost‑effective acquisition.

Chelsea have not yet activated the clause and are inclined to negotiate a modestly higher fee structured over a longer payment schedule.

At 28, Chavarria made 44 appearances for Vallecano in the previous campaign, featuring regularly across all competitions in La Liga.

The Spanish player has expressed willingness to join Chelsea, even though he may not become a regular starter.
