Chelsea have announced that captain Reece James has undergone successful surgery on his knee.
The 26‑year‑old defender suffered the injury during a training session prior to Chelsea’s 5‑1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend, prompting the club to schedule surgery.
James is currently undergoing rehabilitation with Chelsea’s medical team, and no specific return date has been provided.
Chelsea’s upcoming schedule includes a Premier League away game at Everton, followed by home fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with a Carabao Cup visit to Liverpool positioned between the two home matches.
Over recent seasons, James has endured a series of injuries that have sidelined him from several England international tournaments since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
His injury record improved markedly last season, enabling him to play a key role in England’s World Cup campaign, which progressed to the semi‑finals before securing a bronze‑medal victory.
James was one of the players to withdraw from England’s squad during the latest international break. The next break commences in early November, with England set to face Croatia at Wembley Stadium.
