A new wave of synthetic drugs is spreading across the United States, heightening fears of an worsening drug crisis.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump promised a crackdown on drug cartels, designating many as terrorist organizations.
Drug overdose deaths have declined from a peak of about 110,000 in 2022 to roughly 70,000 last year.
Nevertheless, the nation’s long‑standing drug problem may be intensifying, with authorities increasingly worried about cheaper, more potent synthetic substances, including an animal tranquilizer known as tranq.
