Earning the No. 1 seed provides a team with a first-round playoff bye and home-field advantage throughout the conference playoffs, making it a significant advantage in the pursuit of the Lombardi Trophy.

Since 2013, six of the 13 Super Bowl champions have won the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences.

After six weeks, the Chiefs and 49ers lead the respective conference oddsboards. Kansas City has returned to form after missing the playoffs last season, while San Francisco remains undefeated.

Here are the No. 1 seed odds for the AFC and NFC at DraftKings Sportsbook, as of Oct. 21.

Kansas City Chiefs: +240
Buffalo Bills: +250
New England Patriots: +700
Baltimore Ravens: +700
Jacksonville Jaguars: +800
Denver Broncos: +850
Cincinnati Bengals: +1300
Pittsburgh Steelers: +5000
Houston Texans: +10000
Las Vegas Raiders: +12000
Cleveland Browns: +18000
Indianapolis Colts: +25000
New York Jets: +30000
Los Angeles Chargers: +60000
Tennessee Titans: +80000
Miami Dolphins: +100000

What to know: Last season, Denver earned the AFC’s No. 1 seed before losing to New England in the AFC Championship Game. In 2023, Baltimore finished 13-4 to claim the top seed but was eliminated by Kansas City in the conference championship.

The Chiefs have reclaimed the top position on the AFC oddsboard. After missing the playoffs last season, Kansas City opened 5-0, and its odds shifted from +780 before the season to +240. With Patrick Mahomes as quarterback, the Chiefs have won the No. 1 seed four times, in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024, and reached the Super Bowl in each of the last three seasons.

Kansas City’s win over the Chargers on Sunday gave Mahomes his 100th career victory in 131 starts, matching Tom Brady’s pace as the fastest quarterback to reach the milestone. Mahomes and Andy Reid also joined Bill Belichick/Tom Brady, Tony Dungy/Peyton Manning and Bud Grant/Fran Tarkenton as the only coach-quarterback combinations with at least three 5-0 starts.

Kansas City’s strong start has firmly established it as a leading contender for the AFC’s top seed.

NFC

San Francisco 49ers: -140
Minnesota Vikings: +330
Chicago Bears: +1200
Detroit Lions: +1400
Seattle Seahawks: +2000
Green Bay Packers: +2000
Carolina Panthers: +2200

Philadelphia Eagles: +15000
New Orleans Saints: +20000
Washington Commanders: +30000
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: +50000
Arizona Cardinals: +50000

What to know: Seattle earned the NFC’s No. 1 seed in 2025, using its home-field advantage en route to the Lombardi Trophy. The Rams posted the conference’s second-best record but remained the No. 5 seed because they finished second in the NFC West. In 2024, Detroit went 15-2 to claim the top seed before being upset at home in the divisional round. Philadelphia and San Francisco earned the No. 1 seed in 2022 and 2023, respectively, and both reached the Super Bowl before losing to the Chiefs.

Through six weeks of 2026, San Francisco has taken control of the NFC oddsboard. The 49ers’ 6-0 start includes victories over the Rams, Broncos and Seahawks, three teams that reached their respective conference championship games last season. Their odds have shortened from +900 before the season to -140, making them the heavy favorites to finish atop the NFC.

San Francisco has claimed the No. 1 seed twice under Kyle Shanahan, in 2019 and 2023, and reached the Super Bowl both times. Brock Purdy has powered this year’s unbeaten start with 14 touchdown passes and just two interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Rams entered the season as +305 favorites but have fallen to +4000 after a 2-4 start and a home loss to the 12.5-point underdog Cardinals.
