Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Provides Update on Mia Bieniemy’s Recovery After Shooting

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed reporters during Wednesday’s training camp session.

Although most questions centered on the team, he shared an update regarding Mia Bieniemy, who was wounded in a shooting last weekend.

Reid confirmed that she has been moved out of the intensive care unit and is “doing great, better than before. She’s making progress, and we’re encouraged by that.”

He added that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Mia’s husband, remains away from the team in Virginia to support her recovery.

“Eric’s a big part of this. (We) love having him here. But right now, it’s important that he takes care of business. And everybody knows that.

So everybody’s game is picked up and they’re all working hard. Eric will be back soon enough to jump in there and do his thing.”

Mia was shot early Sunday morning at the couple’s residence in Virginia. Eric was at training camp when the incident unfolded. Authorities have not released full details, but their son, Elijah (27), has been detained and faces three felony charges.

Recently released footage depicts officers transporting Mia from the home for medical treatment and placing handcuffs on Elijah before taking him into custody.

Eric is in his first season back with the Chiefs after serving as offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022, a tenure that included Super Bowl LIV and LVII victories.
