Contenders typically avoid selling at the trade deadline, but the Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves in a unique position. Despite being a key piece of their offense, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has reportedly struggled to find chemistry with the coaching staff implemented in 2025.
As a result, the 2024 first-round pick is seeking a fresh start, and multiple NFL teams are reportedly interested in acquiring him. Currently, the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington Commanders are at the forefront of teams showing interest in Thomas.
While the Steelers are said to have a stronger interest in Indianapolis Colts receiver Josh Downs, Downs represents Kansas City’s secondary option if they cannot secure Thomas from the Jaguars.
Thomas enjoyed a highly productive rookie season, tallying 1,282 receiving yards. Although his production dipped to 707 yards in 2025, he has still managed 10 catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns this season. During Sunday’s dominant 42-7 victory over the Colts, Thomas was targeted twice, securing one catch for 12 yards and the game’s opening touchdown.
Despite the interest, the Jaguars have little incentive to trade Thomas unless they receive a substantial offer. Furthermore, their current asking price may not align with his recent usage and production. An additional complication is whether Jacksonville would be willing to trade him to an AFC rival, such as the Chiefs or Steelers.
Washington, currently out of contention this season, would likely view Thomas as a long-term investment for 2027 and beyond, particularly once his fifth-year option is exercised.
However, parting with Thomas carries inherent risks for Jacksonville. Should injuries occur to depth receivers like Jakobi Meyers or Parker Washington, the Jaguars could heavily regret letting Thomas go.
