Chilean Star Alexis Sánchez Nears Move to CF Montréal

Lionel Messi’s 2023 move to MLS markedly broadened the league’s international profile, clearing the path for elite global players to follow. Now, one of Messi’s former teammates is poised to join him in North America, with Alexis Sánchez reportedly edging toward a contract with CF Montréal.

According to the Chilean outlet El Deportivo of La Tercera, CF Montréal has secured Sánchez’s signature, pending a formal club announcement. The veteran forward joins MLS as a free agent after his contract with La Liga’s Sevilla expired.

Sevilla allegedly attempted to retain Sánchez with a one‑year extension, but the former Arsenal star opted to conclude his 18‑year European career and pursue a new venture in Canada. The Chilean legend will occupy CF Montréal’s second Designated Player spot alongside Spanish midfielder Iván Jaime, signing a two‑year contract through 2028.

Although the club has not yet issued a formal press release, final contract details are being finalized ahead of an official unveiling. On Monday, CF Montréal teased the signing on social media, calling the acquisition “one of the biggest names” in franchise history, and managing director Luca Saputo confirmed in a video that Sánchez will don his iconic No. 10 jersey.
